Thousands of Substack creators built the same workaround.

They set up Gmail filters, piped those notifications into n8n, Zapier or Make.com, parsed the subscriber email address out of the notification body, and pushed it into their favorite email marketing platforms like Kit or Bento or ActiveCampaign.

It wasn’t elegant. But it worked. And thousands of creators built their entire subscriber automation stack on top of it.

Then one fine day Substack quietly removed subscriber email addresses from notification emails. No announcement. No deprecation period. One day the notification still had the subscriber email. The next day it had a name but no email address you could parse.
